Art Appreciation

What is humanities?
  •  Comes from the Latin word "humanus", meaning human, refined, and cultured.
Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture. In the Renaissance, the term contrasted with divinity and referred to what is now called classics, the main area of secular study in universities at the time. Wikipedia

The humanities are studies about human culture, such as literature, philosophy, and history. Studying the humanities gives you general knowledge, but not a practical trade — you probably wouldn’t study humanities at beauty school.

What is art?
  • The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the author's imaginativeconceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Other activities related to the production of works of art include the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The three classical branches of art are paintingsculpture and architecture. Musictheatrefilmdance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.

Though the definition of what constitutes art is disputed and has changed over time, general descriptions mention an idea of imaginative or technical skill stemming from human agency and creation. The nature of art and related concepts, such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics.

What is art appreciation?
  • Is the ability to interpret or understand man-made arts and enjoy them either through actual and work experience with art tools and materials or possession of these works of arts for one's admiration and satisfaction.
It is seen used to refer to the exploration of visual art forms or the introduction of basic principles of visual literacy. It refers to analyzing the form of an artwork to general audiences to enhance their enjoyment of such works of art.

Imagination vs. Creativity

Imagination
  • Thinking of something and seeing the impossible or unreal
Imagination is tied very closely to creativity because imagination is putting things, ideas, feelings or images together, initially in the artist's mind. The artist's imagination may be in the form of picturing, thinking or feeling what the proposed work of art will be about.

Creativity

                                           My Artworks

                                                   Artwork # 1 ( Non Objective art )

Non-objective art is abstract or non-representational art. It tends to be geometric and does not represent specific objects, people, or other subjects found in the natural world.

                                                       Artwork # 2 ( Objective art)

Objective art also be called representational art. Recognizable as something you might see in the real world.  It's identifiable as a scene, objects or figures. Representational art doesn't have to be limited to completely realistic scenes. The artist might choose to paint a tree in different colors.

Representational art refers to art which represents something, whether that be a tree in a landscape, apple in a still life, or figure in a portrait. Or in other words, it is art which is clearly identifiable as something which already exists in life.

                                               Artwork # 3 ( Pencil Sketching )

sketch is a rapidly executed freehand drawing that is not usually intended as a finished work.[4] A sketch may serve a number of purposes: it might record something that the artist sees, it might record or develop an idea for later use or it might be used as a quick way of graphically demonstrating an image, idea or principle.
Sketching is generally a prescribed part of the studies of art students.[5] This generally includes making sketches (croquis) from a live model whose pose changes every few minutes. A "sketch" usually implies a quick and loosely drawn work, while related terms such as studymodello and "preparatory drawing" usually refer to more finished and careful works to be used as a basis for a final work, often in a different medium, but the distinction is imprecise.

This is the Medium that i mostly like, because this is the easiest medium to use. When i draw or sketch, it feels like it's very easy for me to make it beautiful..

                                                  Artwork # 4 (Coffee Painting)

Coffee painting is not a new art form by any means, but recently it has been sweeping the globe and increasing in popularity. Not only is it appealing to the eye and smells great, it is a great medium for any artist who is looking to try new things.

Coffee painting is not a new art form by any means, but recently it has been sweeping the globe and increasing in popularity. Coffee paint is created simply by adding coffee (usually instant) to water and varying the strength to get different tones. Some even boil the coffee to get the darkest colors possible.

Painting is often associated with the use of acrylic, oil and watercolor. But these days, this visual art form has added a new material – coffee.
Coffee painting is popular nowadays and many are happy with the result plus the aroma of their art work. In fact, there are now artists who specialize in using coffee for painting.
The story behind this artwork was very memorable for me because that was the first time that i painted using coffee, i like the aroma and the result of my artwork, though that's not really good but i am very proud with myself because i know that i did it with my very best.
Artwork # 5 (Optical Illusion)

An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion is an illusion caused by the visual system and characterized by a visual percept that arguably appears to differ from reality. Illusions come in a wide variety; their categorization is difficult because the underlying cause is often not clear[3] but a classification proposed by Richard Gregory is useful as an orientation.

The story was that i planned to try different optical illusion and i have a lot of idea in mind, but in reality i didn't know how to start, and in the end i came up with this idea. That's me, holding a cup with a beautiful lady inside.

Artwork # 6 (Creative Color wheel)

A color wheel or color circle is an abstract illustrative organization of color hues around a circle, which shows the relationships between primary colors, secondary colors, tertiary colors etc. Wikipedia.

it takes students through the process of creating a color wheel, they measure and divide a circle into 12 sections then create their own motif, which they then trace onto each section of their color wheel. Students learn about the primary, secondary and tertiary colors in a fun and creative way.

Artwork # 7 Principle of Design (Balance)

Balance, one of the key principles of design, refers to the way visual elements are arranged so that their visual weight harmonizes with the other elements in the design, and the composition gives an appearance of properly distributed elements.
This brings up another definition we should address, visual weight. Rather than referring to the actual weight of an object, or its mass, visual weight refers to how much attention an object draws in a composition. A large circle will draw more attention than a smaller circle, much as a bright blue square will draw more attention than a light gray square, of the same size. Knowing how to place these elements so that the composition doesn't get too ''heavy'' on one side, or the other is a mark of good graphic design.

My Performances

Prelim: Vocal Solo

TAGPUAN by : Moira Dela Torre

Vocal music is a type of music performed by one or more singers, either with instrumental accompaniment, or without instrumental accompaniment, in which singing provides the main focus of the piece. Wikipedia

I sang this song because it has a deep meaning for me. The lyrics of the song are beautiful, amazing, and full of meaningful messages that captured my heart. Every time i hear this song my heart refreshing and it feels like i'm deeply in love. It reminds me how blessed i am to met a loyal, understanding and loving husband, and reminds me always to thank God for the answered prayer that i had for the rest of my Life, and that is my Husband!.

Midterm: Folk Dance (Singkil)

folk dance is developed by people that reflect the life of the people of a certain country or region. Not all ethnic dances are folk dances. For example, ritual dances or dances of ritual origin are not considered to be folk dances. Ritual dances are usually called "Religious dances" because of their purpose.

Singkil originated from the Maranao people who inhabit the shores of Lake Lanao.[1] It is a re-telling of an episode from the Maranao epic legend Darangen involving the rescue of Princess Gandingan (abducted by the diwatas) by the legendary Prince Bantugan.[2] It is a popular dance performed during celebrations and other festive entertainment. Originally only women, particularly royalty, danced the Singkil, which serves as either a conscious or unconscious advertisement to potential suitors. The dance takes its name from the heavy rings worn on the ankles of the Muslim princess.[2] A kulintang and agung ensemble always accompanies the dance.

Singkil is a very unique Philippines traditional dance of the Maranao people in Southern Philippines. It is said to be inspired by the age-old Hindu epic “Ramayana” and another mythological epic from South East Asia called “Darangen“. This “folk” dance is said to have originated from the Lake Lanao region in the island of Mindanao in Southern Philippines. It was first popularised by the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company. Apparently this dance is mainly performed during festive occasions.
A Maranao costume is mainly worn in this form of dancing. In addition, the female lead dancer wears an elaborate dress of a princess and holds “decorated fans” in both hands, while the male lead dancer holds either handkerchiefs in both hands and in some cases a sword and a shield.

It was a memorable experience for me, I enjoyed the Dance, and i realized that it is very important to have an idea about the religious practices, culture and Rituals that other filipinos have. It was enjoying because i've experience to danced this kind of folk dance and it gave me knowledge about the background history and origin of Singkil.

                                             Finals: Theater Play (ANAK)

BSED English 2-A
Performing Play called "ANAK" by: Freddie Aguilar

In Role-Playing, a student assumes the perspective of a participating character in a scenario designed to create greater understanding of a topic, surrounding issues, and human interaction.

Role-playing is the changing of one's behaviour to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role. Wikipedia

Role playing is one of my favorite thing to do, that's why i am so very grateful to be part of this play. Though i admit that it was a very tiring experience, yet it was done great. The tiredness, sacrifices in time are all worth it!.
